Transaction Report

James Williams, Head Coach and GM of the Black Team petitioned the league commissioner to add players due to injury.  He was granted that wish. The Black Team then called up Jacob Kneiling from the minor league affiliate Sean Berens Hockey Camp to fill in for Charlie Nahumyk.

Team Building Results

The teams competed in the Encyclopedia Challenge today in team building. The teams had to build two separate towers: one built out of eight sheets of newspaper and the other made out of eight sheets of white paper, both getting three feet of tape. Of the structures built using newspaper, Black’s construction was able to hold the most with five books, tumbling over on the sixth. When it come to the structures built out of white paper, it was White whose tower was able to hold eight encyclopedias, some other books and a black bag. They just beat out Black for whose structure almost held the same amount.

Game Reviews

Game #1 Black vs White 3:1

The first game today saw no score for nearly the first twenty minutes until Ryan blasted his shot past the goalie from the left side (assisted by Nick Tinerella). Pondelicek added an unassisted second goal for Black when his backhand shot went past the goalie. Pawinski pulled one back for White with a beautiful wrap around goal. A minute later Ulmer scored the game’s final goal (assists by Pondelicek from Ryan) to give Black the 3 to 1 win.

Game #2 White vs Red 2:2

Both teams were aggressive in their attack, but the goalies were up to the task, keeping it scoreless for over 20 minutes of play. Red opened the scoring when Coyte put the puck across the goal from the left for Rozanski to finish. White struck back when Imes smashed the puck past the goalie (assisted by Verni). White took the lead not even twenty seconds later when Nalepa took a gorgeous pass in stride, slipping past the goalie to take the lead with thirteen minutes to go. A relentless couple of minutes of Red attack saw Grimaldi score with a minute and seventeen seconds to go (assisted by Santangelo). The game would end in a draw.

Game #3 Red vs Black 3:4

The most dramatic match of the week so far had everything to keep us on the edge of our seats. Black opened up scoring when Ryan weaved his way through the defense before putting it away (assisted by Pondelicek) and then added a second seven minutes later (assists by Griffin from Ulmer). Red responded when Grimaldi netted his shot (assisted by Nahumyk). Andrew Zimmerman scored for Red with a zinger to the top corner from the right from distance (assisted by Coyte). Less than a minute later Coyte put Andrew Zimmerman through again who then slipped it past the goalie to make it 3:2 to Red. Black tied it up when Ulmer took it past the goalie (assisted by Griffin). Then Alex Tinerella blasted his shot to the top right corner (assisted by Ulmer) with 13:30 left. With five and half minutes left, Nahumyk left the ice with a serious wrist injury. Twenty-eight seconds later Ryan received a five minute penalty when he collided knee to knee with Grimaldi sending the Black team to four men with 5:02 left to play. Parker then received a 1:30 penalty with 2 minutes left for a 5 on 3, which became a 6 on 3 when Red pulled their goalie with a minute and half to go. The tying goal eluded Red, however, and the game ended 4:3 to Black.

Vegas Odds

What a difference a day makes! Black went from being the long shot to being the favorite.  They went from a 4-1 long shot to being the favorite with very little payout. Red has had some major injuries.  They have lost the fifth leading scorer in the league! The top scorer in the league is day to day, and questionable for today.  It is very reminiscent of last year when Mike Ryan of the White team was hobbled by an injury.

Black 1.5 – 1

White 3.0 – 1

Red  3.5 -1
